Senate Delays Holiday Recess Seeking Ukraine and Border Deal

Majority Leader Schumer wants to keep working on a solution.

The House of Representatives has recessed for the holidays, but Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York wants the Senate to remain in Washington until they secure a deal on funding for Ukraine and border security.

“Let’s keep working to find a solution instead of rushing for the exits,“ Senator Schumer said. “This may be our last best chance to get this legislation done.”

“The hardest issues, you always save for last,“ Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma responded. “They’re not difficult for me because I have a sense of why wouldn’t we try to secure the border and have an orderly process. Why would we intentionally allow thousands of people every single day to be released in the country?”

The Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, could call representatives back to Washington if the Senate passes a package deal.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for members of the Senate as they consider the possible agreement that ties further Ukraine aid to U.S. border security.
  • For God’s purposes to be accomplished through the actions of Congress.
